The Limestone
Coast
April 2004

Leaving Kangaroo Island, we spent a long day driving east on the Princes Highway.

The map showed the road crossing the Murray River at Wellington. To our surprise there was no bridge, just a well-used and well-swept car punt.

We had dinner in Robe, but pushed on to the excellent Blue Lake Holiday Park at Mount Gambier for the night. The next morning we inspected the Blue Lake, then...

... took an autumnal walk around the dried up "Leg of Mutton" Lake. No mutton in sight, and the remains of the lake were well protected by very healthy stinging nettles!

Fun with the telephoto lens.

In the afternoon we crossed into Victoria and made Port Fairy by about 4pm. We took a wonderful sunset walk out to Griffiths Island.

The pristine beach on Griffiths Island: seaweed "necklaces" and delicate footprints.

At the end of the island is the 1859 Port Fairy Lighthouse. Very scenic with that red door. Peter took this great shot of the Gedye family.

Grace and Caitlin each made delicate art pieces from the necklaces and shells.

The sun was setting and we had to press on.

Last light of the day on the road to Warrnambool.

The journey continues as we approach the fabled Twelve Apostles.
